A Little About Me

My name is Matt, I have been told I am a millennial (what ever that means) and I am from England. I grew up on the south coast of England and I lived there until about the age of 28. At that age I moved to London to work and find money. Ironically, that was the catalyst for where I am today, not working and without much money

I had watched all my friends travel after college, a gap year lets say, before they went off to university. I always wanted to travel but I never had the means to travel and there was always an excuse. Maybe the excuses were real or maybe they were made up out of the fears I had. It wasn’t until I moved to London, got tired of working, and got a girlfriend who was keen to travel, that things began to develop. From that point onward, we were set on travelling somewhere far away and beautiful.

Since then we have gone our separate ways and had our separate journeys. We started our journey in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico and from there, I have had the pleasure of slowly making my way south. In the following 3 years I had only managed to make it as far as Southern Colombia. My ultimate goal is being able to step foot at the southernmost point of South America and see the wonders of Patagonia along the way. This was my original goal in the first 6 months/year of my journey but obviously I didn’t know myself very well.

Before travelling, I worked almost 10 years in the Casino industry in England. Primarily, I worked dealing on the tables, inspecting other dealers and then finally working in the cash desk. In the cage (cash desk) I was responsible for the millions of pounds that pass through a successful casino on a daily basis. Not only that, I had to make sure no laws and regulations were being broken and the casino and its staff kept its licenses. I had the opportunity to have my very well paid job back after 9 months but politely declined and continued my travels.

Nowadays I don’t own a lot money but at the same time I don’t have a lot of stress. I know how to find the cheapest food and what to cook when the facilities are available. Earning money doesn’t bother me but is something I will come across when I need to. I am enjoying my time away from the worries of everyday life and I am enjoying my life on a daily basis.

Long may it continue because life is too short to spend it slaving away for a future that may never come. I prefer to enjoy my life now whilst I can and I feel good for it.
